A shadow has fallen upon Arnor in the north. Beyond the Ettenmoors The Lord of Angmar, the Witch King, is gathering many evil men, orcs and other fell creatures to his realm. It is said that they are growing in numbers daily. Eriador is gripped by one of the harshest winters in living memory, and many evil things have reappeared. Like the sightings of riders in black, and other signs of the arising of Sauron.
An Elf Lord rode out with an escort towards Angmar many months ago - but there has been no word or sightings since. Are there any warriors brave enough to venture to Angmar?
1st task - organise a group to ride out to Angmar.

*Somewhere in Enedwaith. Has been riding through the winter plains for days. Icicles are hanging from Arian's nose and on the bridle. Reaches a forest, also deeply in snow. After a while she reaches one of the Ranger Meeting Points. Knots the reigns to a branch and climbs up to the treehouse, carefully avoiding the secret traps. Inside she finds the message, hastly scribbled on the message board. Reads carefully, sighing. Takes the chalk and starts writing: "I, Rhiannon Dragondaughter offer my sword for the protection of Eriador. I will ride back immediately and try to find more warriors to help us. I will ride to Bree, waiting in the Prancing Pony for others to join us." CLimbs back down, turning towards her horse Arian.* Sorry, my girl, no trip to the warm southern parts of Middle Earth. We are needed here. *Turns around and rides back towards the plains of Eriador again.*

* Has heard the rumours of a shadow growing in the north. In fact people in Rivendell talk of little else. There is a feeling of unease amongst the elves. She has also heard that a meeting is taking place in Bree. Without hesitation she packs a small amount of supplies and saddles Asfaloth. To those who try to stop her she replies.* I would rather face the fires of Mordor then live my life in fear and uncertainty.
*Rides off through the biting winds in the direction of Bree.*

*Finally reaches Bree after a week of difficult riding with lots of detours because of the weather. Rides up to the yard of the Prancing Pony and turns to the stables. Makes sure Arian is safe and warm before turning towards the inn. Enters in a swirl of snow and walks up to the counter.* Mr. Butterbur, a room please. I don't know how long I'm going to stay.* places several coins on the counter.* This should cover all expenses for me and my horse for a week. *Walks into the main room and sits down in the far dark corner, still wearing cloak and hood, being able to watch the guests and the door without being seen and recognized at once.*

*Arrives in Bree as darkness is falling. Lets one of the inn's grooms take Asfaloth and heads towards the glowing lights of the inn. Steps in through the door, no longer feeling so brave. Feels very alone and vulnerable. Intimidated by the strange men, who stare and whisper as she walks to the bar. At least the innkeeper has a friendly face, and it is warmer inside. Orders a glass of mulled wine. Has a quick look at the faces around her, mainly men, residents of Bree and some rangers. But no one familiar.*
ooc - eek! gotta go lightening storm!

Smiles as she sees Arwen entering the room. Lets her finish her first drink before raising slowly and walking to her table.

*looks up to see Rhiannon coming towards her. The relief on her face must be obvious.* Rhiannon! Please come and sit with me. * moves along the wooden bench to make room. Still grinning, delighted to see a familiar face* I felt sure I would find you here.

*Smiles* So did I...*orders another drink* How are you? Have you found any warriors to join us? I posted the message on every ranger place I came to but I fear that the weather will keep many from reading them. It was a pretty lonely ride to Bree...

Yes the roads are strangely quiet. I wonder if it's just the weather that is keeping folk in hiding. And what of the group of riders that have supposedly vanished?

An elf has been watching them for some time. He now moves towards their table. He is dressed in a dark green leather cloak, worn and weatherbeaten.* Excuse me interrupting but I heard you mention a missing group of riders? Were you referring to the group lost in Arnor? *He looks to each of them in turn with raised eyebrows* I wondered what business it was of yours?

*Takes a long look at the elf, holding the look of his eyes without blinking until he turns his gaze down.* This are strange times....many rumors are spreading in the shadows....We heard about a king of your people who vanished in the northern parts of Eriador. Messages asking for help to find whatever or whoever is remaining of him and his party. And to find out about certain things....going on in the mists of Angmar.

He sits down at their table and sighs heavily. The elf you speak of was Lord Eruesso. *There is great sadness in his eyes as he pauses for a moment as though remembering.* He lived on the Tower Hills that look towards Mithlond in the Gulf of Lune. He was a brave and mighty warrior, a formidable enemy on the battlefield. The Lord of Angmar sought to taunt him, challenging him to a battle and calling him a coward for not responding. Alas, the relentless taunting finally broke him and he hastily gathered a group of his finest soldiers and headed for Angmar. *He looked down* My brother, Calime was one of the group. There were sightings of them as they headed into Angmar but what befell them there I cannot say. It is said that the Witch King set a trap for them and that they probably died of terrible torment within those darkened walls. *Gets up* I wish you a safe journey........but be aware of what you are up against................Farewell.

*Has been listening closely.* I'm sorry to hear that your brother was with the king. Please wait a moment. If you know any other details of their plans, it would be invaluable for us. Where was the battle to take place, for example?

*Sits down again* It is believed that there never was an intended battle. It was a trick to lure Eruesso to Angmar. I know the witch king is incredibly evil but why he would want Eruesso dead is beyond me. *shakes his head* The day they left they said they were riding to the gates of Angmar, to confront the witch-king. It is all so very strange. *He looks weary* I have left Tower Hills I can not bear to return. It has lost it's best warriors and is a shadow of it's former self.

I can understand your feelings. Maybe there is a chance for you to restore what was your home if you join us. We will need every sword and arrow and having an elf with us will certainly be an advantage when trying to find other elves up there. Please come with us, you would be very welcome.
