Éowyn continues pushing upon the refugees to hurry to Helm's Deep, yet people were now beginning to get weary.
"Don't give up! We're almost there!" she encourages them, though the shieldmaiden herself knew that hopes were deminishing. "It's too far to quit!"

A cloaked man stumbles out of the shade of trees, holding a warg-rider back with his pike. Unmounted, the warg-rider wasn't large, but strong and determined. Attacking furiously, the warg-rider's relentlessness was wearing down the stranger's last bit of strength. The warg itself had already been hard to deal with, and his bloody scimitar was carelessly hung at his sword-belt, swaying dangerously with every move. The bulk of weapons he carried made it harder to manoeuvre and he wasn't as deft nor swift as he would have preferred; even the clumsy, hulking warg-rider had gotten the better of him. With a powerful thrust, the rider had him on the ground. Clinging onto the last scrap of hope, he flung the pike as hard as he can at the ugly beast, but only succeeds in slicing the rider's ear off and making him even angrier. There wasn't time to draw his blades, he knew, but habit caused his hand to move instinctively towards the sword-belt to grasp the hilt of the scimitar. The rider's own blade was coming down fast, and he would never beat it-
With a strangled cry, the creature fell to the ground on him, an arrow sticking out of it's back. He kicked the body away, naked steel in hand, and stood up, only to be greeted by an archer in the Rohan green and white garb. He saw the shock in the man's face as the Eorling took in the scarlet cloak and dark eyes, but he didn't explain. With a curt nod of thanks, he picked up the fallen pike, sheathed the scimitar properly but loosely for easy drawing, and started moving nearer to centerfield. He stopped after a few steps, realising why the archer had seemed a little strange. Unstrapping his bow, he passed both the Harad-made weapon and the quiver of black arrows to the arrowless archer, who'd used his last arrow to save a stranger's life.
Then he went into the midst of the small battle.

*Slashes at the circle of wargs, trying to push them back. He manages to dispatch two in quick sucession but the third warg he encounters proves to be more troulesome. It's slavering jaws clash with his steel blade, as they remain locked in a tireless duel, neither making any ground.*

After walking until their feet hurt and the children were weary beyond recall, the Eorlings finally came within eyesight of Helm's Deep.
"Hold on there for a moment," Éowyn tells a young girl named Gabriel as she sets her down from carrying her for the whole afternoon. "We're resting only briefly. Once the sun crosses that mountain, we're off again."
"Won't I see my horsie again? Mama and Papa?" Gabriel wonders.
"You will. You will." Éowyn says softly, taking the girl's hand gently. However, the shieldmaiden knew the truth and wondered whether it would be better to face it. She knew that keeping the little ones in beliefs would not last...

Éowyn now holds the reins of Waterwhisp in one hand and a sweet little Eorling baby with lots of golden hair in her other arm. Neola and Gabriel are walking along her side and Hamnet was on the horse. An elder member is also closeby, helping care for the little ones.
Suddenly, an orc jumps out from the bushes nearby, frightening the children and the elders. It comes close to Éowyn and she draws out her sword, stabbing it in the stomach.
Neola peers behind one of the horses, her mouth in an odd expression.
"Is this the only one?" she asks hopefully.
"Alas! one can only hope," Éowyn replies, returning her sword to its hilt but still keeping her hand on it. "Only time shall tell, we'd better hurry!" She picks up Neola and puts her on a horse.

Ever since the sighting of the orc, the progress of the refugees has increased. Éowyn was glad to note that things were moving on after all that happened, yet she knew that the only reason behind it was fear. She lets out a shrill whistle, summoning another horse to come up to her. She puts some of the children who have been on foot for the whole day on Harselfoot (the horse) and continues the journey.
