Edoras, the courts of Rohan, the chief settlement of the Riddermark, situated on top of a rocky outcrop in the lee of the White Mountains, it's circumference protected by a mighty wall and wooden palisade. King Theoden, Lord of Rohan resides in Meduseld, the Golden Hall, the high house of the kingdom, a sumptuous feasting hall thatched as if with gold, it's pillars and beams all carved in the complex and beautiful style of the Rohirrim, incorporating a myriad of twining, gripping beasts and horse motifs to mark the great love and respect the Horse-Lords have for their animals. He sits on his throne, looking troubled and contemplates the dark shadow that is encrouching on his lands, an increasing threat that grows as each day passes.

Eowyn walks into the Golden Hall's throne room seeing King Theoden. The shieldmaiden tries not to show her feelings of concern as she walks over to her King's side.
"My lord, ist thou alright?" she asks, placing a hand on his, feeling how cold it was.

Elessar is seated at one of the benches inside the hall. He is deep in thought also, though he looks up and nods as Eowyn enters the room. He watches the old king, wondering what course of action he will decide upon.

Éowyn stands up and notices that Elessar is there. She hopes that he shall be able to help Théoden return to his former strength again.
The shieldmaiden walks over to Elessar quietly, as if she doesn't want her footsteps to be heard.

*Has arrived a few days ago for a little rest on her way from a completed mission in Gondor. Leans against a pillar, almost hidden by the shadows and watches the people in the hall.*

*The door is thrown open, interrupting the wary silence of the hall, and one of the Rohirrim guards walks in with Imrel at his heel. She sweeps past him quickly to the king's throne, an expression of the upmost gravity dominating her usually cheerful face.*
Your Majesty, I'm afraid I have come to deliver most unfortunate news.
*Looks around, seeing some of her friends present, and blinks a few times to control the watering of her eyes before she continues.*
I was riding through your land... And I came upon a village, a rather small community. I was only passing through, but only a short time after I had left, I heard screams and smelt smoke and turned back.
*She drops her gaze, unable to look Theoden in the eye.*
By the time I reached it, the village was alight and under siege by Orcs, and all I could do was watch as the village was razed, and the people of it slaughtered, and flee before the intruders discovered me. I came as fast as I could to tell you, but on the way there were more villages... half a dozen at least... totally destroyed... No doubt the result of similar attacks.
*Releases a shuddering sigh, and looks up again.*
So there you have it: the dark forces are moving.

*Listens intently to what Imrel has to say. his eyebrows furrowing as her story unfolds. When she has finished he sighs heavily and looks to the others for their reactions.*
This is what I feared.. Saruman has closed the Gap of Rohan against us. We are more then likely facing attack from both east and west. I have heard rumours of great numbers of Orcs spilling into Rohan. It seems that Imrel has confirmed my worst suspicions.
*looks to Theoden*
We are outnumbered my Lord. We cannot attack them directly. Is there anywhere safe enough to shelter the women and children? Anywhere strong enough to sustain an attack from Saruman's army.

Éowyn looks to Théoden with worry in her bluish eyes, knowing that the decision was his alone. Yet the shieldmaiden also knew that she had to say something...
"Saruman is plotting against us, we need to act quickly or worse shall happen. Imrel here has confirmed it, time cannot be wasted..."

*Aamaal who has been in Rohan for a week now leans quietly aginst the wall.. When She hears Imrels news she grabs the wall before she falls.. She lets a quick gasp escape but quickly catches her self and enters the light in the room. And looks to the king waiting his answer as to what they shall do..*

King Theoden gets slowly to his feet aware that all eyes in the room are upon him. He nods slowly to himself, a finger pressed against his lips as he considers Imrel's words carefully. The hall has fallen into silence, a deadly hush, as each and every bystander awaits the King's verdict with growing anticipation. The only sound is the thud of Theodens boots as he moves slowly and deliberately across to one of the windows which looks out over the kingdom of Edoras to the Misty Mountains. He has a faraway look in his eye as he regards his kingdom, his land, once free and untamed, now under threat from the darkest of enemies.*
Helms Deep...
*He turns to regard his audience after an immeasurably long silence.*
No army has ever breached the Deeping Wall nor set foot inside the Hornburg. Not while men of Rohan defend it..
*He addresses Eowyn, Rhiannon and Imrel*
There is little time.. tell every man , woman and child to prepare to leave Edoras at first light. Warn them to leave their possesions and travel light....
*He moves with purpose towards the door. His expression grave but determined*
...for it is a long road ahead of them..

*In a heartbeat, Imrel turns and strides from the Hall without another word or backward glance. When safely through the door, a tear glistens in her eye, but she blinks it away, and the sound of her footsteps grows faint as she goes to fetch her steed and carry out Theoden's bidding.*

*Follows Imrel out through the doors but turns left instead and heads in the direction of the East stable block. Once there he instructs the men to start readying all the horses. Word is begining to spread like wildfire through Edoras he can see it on the faces of the refugees and in the whir of activity that surrounds him. He walks the length of the stables, picking out the strongest and fittest horses and begins loading them with supplies and essential equipment that will be needed on the journey.*

Refusing to waste any time, Éowyn faces King Théoden and says, "A good plan, my king," before running out of the door and yelling "I'll go alert the village!"
She goes to the stables and takes Waterwhisp, mounts her stallion swiftly and rides into the village to tell everyone...
