*They jump the last log together and after a swift climb emerge on a cliff top. The view across Rohan is quite spectacular. Below them dropping away are rolling hills, stretching for miles, disapearing in mist. A cool breeze blows keenly, lifting the horses manes. An eagle glides past effortlessly just above head height. The witch king rides on, dangerously close to the edge yet seeming oblivious of the danger. He looks back at Legolas an evil grin on his face.*

Slowly coming out of the trance brought on by the scenery, the prince turns to the Witch King, who seems to want to press on. Like the proud and confidant elf he is, Legolas follows fearlessly, his gaze straying to the vast land under an equally magnificent sky often.

*They ride across the top of a valley which narrows as they head North so that the cliffs on the opposite side gradually fall in to form a ravine. The Witch King halts his horse studying the far side. The gap is easily the width of two good sized horses. The drop plummets to oblivion. He turns to Legolas.*
You have excelled so far in every obstacle you've faced....but this must be the ultimate challenge...

Suddenly, from across the ravine there is a voice of beauty. It is singing an old elf song that had been in Middle Earth for centurys. The voice rose and fell, the singer sang it with beauty and passion. A figure appeared in the trees. She rode upon a white steed, beautifully figured, it was an elf horse. The figure came out behind the trees and behold it was the Lady Arwen. She stopped her singing and layed eyes upon Witch King and Legolas, finally she spoke.
[glow=red,2,300]"Greetings Legolas, Prince of Mirkwood, Son of King Thranduil, what brings you to these parts of the forest. This is dangerous land and not many folk have the will to pass it. *She eyed Witchking* And you are the leader of the nine nazgul...Greetings...."[/glow]

*The Witch Kings horse shook his head, disturbed by the Elven singing, and took several steps backwards.*
I see we have an audience...
*The Witch king nodded curtly to the Elf maiden and glanced towards Legolas, wondering if she was a friend of his.*

Arwen looked at Damnation and spoke to it in elfish. Soft words she spoke. The horse whinied and remained silent. She turned back to Witch King.
[glow=red,2,300]If you wish for me to leave I shall do so. I was just gazing upon your little game. Seems like we have some competition here. *A smiled played across her face.*[/glow]

Legolas returns the Witch King's look as an indication that he did not indeed know this elven maiden. He clears his throat softly and, placing a hand over his chest, bows his head in greeting.
Suilad, Arwen Evenstar. Indeed, we are in a different forest and, yes, I am in the company of the Witch King. But I assure you that this is no competition.
He looks meaningfully at WK, not able to contain a grin.
Now tell me, what brings you toin such a place?

*Looks on impatiently as the Elves exchange pleasantries. Damnation also gets restless and starts walking in circles.*

Noting the Witch King's desire to get on with the challenge, he bows his head to the elven maiden.
Forgive me, but I think we should be going. I trust you know your way? Good. It was a pleasure, Arwen Evenstar.
He smiles warmly as she trots off and turns back to WK with a sigh.
I'm sorry. However, it seems that now we can continue.

Good.
*His tone is abrupt. He turns Damnation towards the cliff and the business in hand and halts on the very edge, looking down in to the bottomless ravine, almost mesmerised by it.*
Tell me what you are thinking Legolas? Do we jump it?

Legolas leads his horse forward, looking down for a moment then looking across to the other side. He remains silent, thinking about his answer.
I think that our horses are able... as are their riders. What say you?

Yes of course..
*He continues to stare down into the ravine*
There is no doubt in my mind that they could clear such a distance under normal circumstances...
*He looks to the gap, relishing the danger*
But should you not time your stride right...should you take off too soon or indeed leave it too late then a hindfoot left behind might mean a wet leg and a lost wager on a river jump...... but hear it would amount to certain death....
*He lets the words hang on the air for a moment gaining maximum effect.*
I just wanted you to be aware of what you risked..
*With that he turned his horse around roughly and rode a reasonable distance away, preparing to jump first.*

He feels as though something is pulling at his stomach and he takes off as well, leading his horse into a loop. He passes behind a surprised Witch King and gallops straight for the ravine, his body pressing against his stallion. With one great jump, he feels suspended, as if all of his immortal years have been spent in this one moment. Suddenly he is brought back with the sound off hooves thudding violently on the ground, a sound foreign to his ears from an elven stallion. The prince pulls the creature to a stop, and remains unmoving.

*Damnation leapt and reared, trying to evade the bit wrenching in his mouth. He refused to be left behind and pranced after the Elven stallion like a coiled spring. The Witch King had no option but to let him go and so he raced towards the ravine, hard on the heels of Legolas, not fully in control of his own steed. He had wanted to do it precisely, in a calculated manner but he found himself hauled towards the gaping chasm, a mere passenger. The Elf's horse leapt off into the air as though it had wings and Damnation followed with a powerful thrust from his hindlegs sending him over the ravine. The other side came up to meet them and they landed hard. The momentum carrying them on a short way.
*The Witch King swung his horse round, elated and punched the air. He rode alongside the elf, slapping him heartily on the back, barely able to contain his excitement.*
Fantastic Legolas! Well done!

I should say the same to you, Witch King!
A wide grin spreads slowly across his face, still unbelieving and very much relieved that they had both made it across. His expression turns to one of triumph and excitement. The prince returns the gesture and laughs to the sky, slapping his stallion's neck.
