Legolas smiles this time in understanding.
Oh. Of course.
He jumps gracefully back on his horse, deciding that WK does not wish to stop after all. The prince leads his stallion to the log and clears it easily and almost effortlessly. He laughs lightly.
I would have been very embarassed indeed if an elf failed to guide his horse over a log.

*The Witch King grins, glad the elf has taken up the challenge.*
Your horse jumps well. We need to try something more demanding..
*He spies a fallen tree of a considerable size and sends his horse towards it. He turns to face it and rides towards it at speed. Damnation leaps, tucks up his front legs and soars over it. Landing heavily on the other side. Witch king pulls hard on the riens bringing the horse back to a standstill.*
Wooo!!
*He looks to Legolas elated and waits expectantly.*

The young prince smiles and follows the Witch King, jumping gracefully over the log, his stallion landing with a slightly softer thud than that of Damnation. Legolas looks at WK almost expectantly.

Right...
*He had not expected Legolas to tackle that last log quite so effortlessly and he was starting to feel less confident about winning. He looked around for the next obstacle. It was another log of about the same height but much wider. He walked Damnation away from it, getting as much of a run up as he could. He took a deep breath and turned, spurring the horse on, willing it to jump. Damanation gave a mighty effort, his back feet scraping off the bark. They landed safely and moved out the way for Legolas's attempt.*

The prince raises an eyebrow at the new challenge. He wonders silently if the Witch King knows he is up against both elven rider and stallion. He whispers to his horse, the creature mimicking the previous path of Damnation. Legolas presses his body down against his steed, the effort of the jump reduced from less air resistance. The horse jumps clear over the log, landing next to Damnation but regaining his control more quickly. Now facing a slightly annoyed Witch King, Legolas clears his throat and trots right past him in an effort to move on into the forest that is further rousing his curiosity and quelling WK's need for competition. He calls out behind him.
You are truly an excellent rider.

Oi!
*He gives Legolas a disgruntled look*
I'm not done yet!
*seeing that a he is getting no response he sends Damnation after the Elven horse, into the forest, not wanting to be left behind.*

The prince smiles to himself when he hears the Witch King hurry to catch up to him. He is a bit relieved the he has decided to remain in his company, as he rather enjoyed being with the Witch King. Without looking back to meet his annoyed gaze, Legolas looks ahead to the forest.
What do you know about the forest?

Everything
*He boasts as he catches the elf and rides alongside him.*
I have ridden these paths for many ages. I know every twist and turn, every clearing, every valley.

Legolas smiles, almost fondly.
You find peace here, Witch King. What about this forest draws you so?

*He thinks for a moment before answering.*
It is a retreat, an escape from the day to day annoyances and interruptions.
*He is starting to feel uncomfortable with the questioning and tries to change the subject.*
Turn left here! down this path. I have a real challenge for you!

The prince reluctantly accepts the Witch King's change of subject and turns left as he is told. He looks around him at the nature of this particular spot, trying to discern the Witch King's intention with mounting curiosity.

*The path is only just wide enough for them to ride side by side. Damnation starts to jog, suddenly excited by the change of route. The Witch King shortens his reins. Ahead of them is a series of logs, of varying heights. They seem to have been placed across the path deliberatley for jumping practice.*
What I want to show you lies at the end of this path. I just thought this was a more exciting route to take.
*Damnation leaps forward, charging towards the first log. Both horses meet it together and jump in unison, galloping on to the next obstacle.*

Legolas smiles to himself and mentally shakes his head at the Witch King's obvious love of competition. He jumps the first log easily, his elven horse's nimble gait matching and surpassing that of Damnation. Not wanting to show up the Witch King however, the prince keeps the stallions efforts (or lack thereof) from showing by feigning undivided attention on the path ahead and the coming obstacles.

*They ride neck and neck to the next log, rising and soaring over it easily. The path steepens and the horses quicken their pace as they negoiate the hill.*

The young prince keeps his eyes on the path ahead, at ease with the steady footfalls of his stallion. He smiles still at WK's enthusiasm for the mutual chase as they near the end of their obstacle course.
