Out beyond a small village of Rohan lies a large haystack which has been there for as long as the Rohirrim can remember. Some of the elders claim that there are strange legends about horses mysteriously dissapearing on shadowy nights there, yet the young children just like to come during the daytime after their chores are done and play together with wooden swords or just frolic together...

(Mind if I bring in an old NPC?)
*Brem Swiftbark, a scruffy haired, skinny boy of twelve, leaps clear over the lowest part of the haystack, before toppling giddily into the prickly golden mass, giggling merrily.*
Cally, come on!
*His six year old sister pushes back a lock of bushy red hair and walks after him, carefully watching her footing.*
I don't want to get all hay covered.
*His green eyes light up mischieviously.*
Oh, you don't, do you...
*He scrambles up and runs around the stack, diving at her to push her in, but she is too fast for him, and runs around the other side with a squeal. He groans and gets up, not put off. Quietly, he sneaks around, keeping close to the haypile to avoid being seen. Hearing a rustling just ahead of him, he leaps out. The girl he knocks into topples to the hay strewn ground with a gasp of surprise.*
What in the-?
You're not Callissa!
*Stumbles back hastily, looking horrified at the mistake. As the girl rises aswell and sweeps her mousey hair away from her face, Brem recognizes her.*
Firebird!
*Imrel looks up, surprised, but she is soon beaming.*
Brem, I can't believe it's you. What are you doing so far from Bree?
Mrs. Burren had to visit her ill sister in Hobbiton and Jake couldn't take care of us himself, so Callissa and I are staying with our relatives here.
*A curious looking Callissa emerges from behind the haystack.*
*Looks confused.*
And where's Kisna?
Mrs. Burren didn't think a baby would be up to such a long journey, so Mrs. Delf is looking after her.
Brem wanted to stay with Matt and Trip aswell, but Mrs. Delf said that five children would be too much to handle.
Why are you here?
I came to visit someone. You know, I find it interesting that a couple of Bree children can have relatives halfway across Middle Earth.
My father's sister lives here.
*He feels a slight pang of remorse at the thought of his late father; he lost him less than a year ago, after all. But after faltering for a moment, he pushes that concern aside and carries on.*
But don't ask how two siblings ended up in different homes, because it's a really long story that I've forgotten parts of.
*Smiles sheepishly.*
*Smiles back and sits down in the hay, patting the space beside her to motion the children to join her.*
*Brem waits for Callissa to sit down, then he sits next to her, subtly brushing a mound of hay down on top of her head.*

(No problem. The more the merrier!)
A blonde girl emerges from behind the trees close to the haystack.
"Hello everyone!" she says, setting down a wrapped bundle containing food as well as some warm blankets.
"Does anyone believe in that old rumor about horses dissapearing here? Last night there was gossip in Meduseld that three of the soldier's horses ran away here... I decided to stay here over the night and see if anything strange happens."
She sits down on the haystack...

*Her eyes light up at the thought of a mystery.*
Sounds intruiging. Would you mind company?
*Callissa goes to sits next to Eowyn, her green eyes wide.*
You think this place might be... haunted?
*Speaks in hushed tones.*

"Company is more than welcome, but I'm going against my Lord's will doing this so we'll have to keep this a secret. Old wives tales claim this place to be haunted, though I don't know for sure," Éowyn says. "Legend claims that when King Brego II was slain here in battle decades ago some strange magic happened..."

*Now Brem goes wide eyed.*
There was a battle fought here?

"Aye, there sure was." Éowyn lies back on the haystack, closing her eyes and recalling the story...
"It was back in the times when Sauron wsa up to no good, around when Isildur and the Ring incident took place; I guess. Orcs had been bothering Rohan's villages and King Brego II got so fed up of it that he led an attack on the orcs. If I'm not mistaken, there was a secret hideout nearby..."

*Imrel listens with interest. Sure she has heard about this battle among others, but she can't remember all the details.*
Go on...
*Brem interrupts excitedly.*
Who won?

"...One starry night, King Brego II had a company of soldiers standing guard there to prevent orc raids, yet the orcs already knew that the Rohirrim would be there. A horn sounded in the distance as the orcs came charging over the hill and an arrow hit King Brego II straight in the heart just as he was about to lead his men. Angered, the Rohirrim fought back, winning the battle; yet their King was still dead and there was nothing they could do. The odd thing was, when they found his armor, his body had vanished! Nobody knows what happened since."
Éowyn finishes what she knew about the story, a shiver running up her spine...

*Excitedly.*
Maybe he's the one haunting the haystack!
Brem, don't!
*Callissa looks rather concerned.*
*Im is chilled by the tale herself, but doesn't let on.*
That's a part of the story I hadn't heard before. Getting to sleep here might be a little harder with that in mind.

"Brego haunting the haystack?" Éowyn wonders, "Could be true..."

(You know you can RP the kids too if you want to, Eo?)
*Brem still seems undeterred.*
Can we stay as well?
I don't think you're aunt would appreciate it if we lost you to an unsettled ghost, Brem.
We could ask. It'd be an adventure! We might even see the ghost!
*Callissa looks somewhat uncertain about the prospect.*

"Come on!" Brem said enthusiastically, "A little adventure won't do harm!"
Éowyn smiles at Brem, he really reminded her of Éomer when he was younger for some reason.
"I don't know when people saw King Brego II out here for sure last time," she replies. "I came out here to see it for myself, yet perhaps should have also gotten permission in the first place."
"Are you sure we won't get in trouble?" Calissa asks, playing the the hay...

*Im puts on an overly haunting wailing voice.*
Onlt if the ghost comes!
*Grins.*
*Rolls his eyes.*
If you're not going to be serious, you shouldn't stay.
Not even if I can make really nice roasted mushrooms?
We're not hobbits, Imrel.
All right, I am taking this seriously. But if you want to stay, you should both ask your aunt if she'll let you.

"Mushrooms?" Éowyn says, "Well, I brought a bag of Rohirrim cinnamon cookies for us incase we get hungry... And some apple cider too."
"Now where is your aunt? I'd guess we'd better tell her..."
"But she'll say NO!" Brem protested, and Éowyn secretly agreed...
