"IMREL!!! EOWYN!!!!!!!!!" Haleth screams from the campsite, tripping over the container of apples and running away as fast as he could, Séomela, Callisa and Brem following him.
"Someone needs our help!" Eowyn realizes, caught up in panic to much to figure out who it was. She bends down and tries to get Imrel's leg unstuck, but it just wouldn't budge. And meanwhile, the thing coming out of the pit was almost all the way out...

*Imrel pulls futily at her leg, growing uncreasingly frantic. With an almighty tug and a yelp, she falls backwards into the boggy ground.*
Eowyn, run! I'll come in a minute!

"I can't leave you!" Eowyn shouts, now that the weird neighs of the horseman emerging from the pit were getting louder. She takes her friends hand to try and lift her up, but Imrel wouldn't budge from the ground...

But Haleth and the others!
*Her mind starts to swim, and she can't even think where are the children are. As she feels a liquid warmth bubbling past the ankle of her trapped leg, it hits her than she is somehow sliding toward the pit.*
Eowyn, you'll be stuck too if you don't get away!
*She has so far been clutching the sleeve of her friend's dress as some sort of anchor from the mist and murk, and it is with great effort that she lets go. The liquid ground continues to envelop her leg.*

"Sorry, Imrel!" Éowyn says, knowing that her friend was right and that the children had to be gotten to safety.
The shieldmaiden runs away from the pit, frantically calling the names of Callisa, Brem, Haleth and Séomela...

*All of the feeling has gone from Imrel's right leg, and the mist is so obscuring that Eowyn has disappeared from her sight after going only a few yards. In the hopes that she can still get out of this, Imrel grapples with her sharp nails up the sloping ground behind her, trying to claw herself away from the pit. She can feel herself choking up with panic and the waft of pungent fumes.
*When, with no warning, there it is again; that seeping sensation of icy cold. Dreading what she will behold, the young Ranger nonetheless raises her eyeline... to see the shadowy figure on horseback towering above her. Her breath catches in her throat... Is the rider looking at her? It's too hard to tell, the image is so dark and blurred that it may as well be a shadow upon the mist...
*But even as Imrel stares up with wide eyes, the horse turns, looking away... after Eowyn. A new fear jolts in Imrel's mind; she compels the mysterious apparition not to follow Eowyn and the children... Yet her will has no effect, and the shadow of the horse and its owner starts to lumber in the direction the shield-maiden ran...*

Éowyn continues running, and suddenly she hears the steps of a horse come from behind her. She turns around but does not see anything in the night, only the vague fog and an eeriee howl...
She continues running on through the night, and reaches the campfire, only to find that Haleth, Callisa, Brem and Séomela are gone...
The shieldmaiden stands there for a moment, her hand on the hilt of her sword, and the footsteps behind her grow even louder...

*Brem, Seomela, Haleth and Callissa have run all the way to a grove to trees some way from the haystack, hoping to hide there safely until danger has passed. All four are out of breath, and Haleth is trying to ignore a bruise on his knee from when he tripped over a tree root. Brem strains to see anything through the shroud of the night air.*
Where are Eowyn and Imrel? They should have followed us...
It got them!
*Callissa bursts into tears- rather noisy tears. Seomela tries to shush the little girl at the same time as telling her everything will be alright.*
We have to go back!
*In his panic, Brem's voice starts to rise as well, and an anxious Seomela presses a finger to her lips as a plea that they remain silent.*
*Back at the haystack where Eowyn is ready to draw her sword, the hoofsteps behind her halt suddenly. The night seems to stand still and wait for an few, infinite seconds before a voice, rasping with disuse, resonates over the turbulent wind.*
Intruders...

Éowyn suddenly hears the crying of a young girl somewhere behind the trees. Hoping that she could find her companions, the shieldmaiden sets off in that direction, when the ground suddenly shakes and the word intruders rings out through the hills of Rohan...
Bitting on her lowerlip, Éowyn looks around her and sees nobody, only the night sky and smoke coming from the place where the old barn was.
As eager as she was to see what that was all about, Éowyn continues searching for her companions in the dark, dark, woods...

*Back at the barn, a panicked Imrel kicks and struggles and fights to get free of the goo that continues to swallow up her legs. Her hands are caked with mud from trying to find a grip on the boggy ground, and attempting to scrabble up the slope has flecked her face and hair with dirt. She can hear every frenetic breath, getting higher and louder and almost clogging in her throat at every pass.
*A sudden, piercing screech brings her to her senses. That sounds that Seomela. Where is she? Once more, she tries to heave herself forward, focusing on getting to Eowyn and the others.*
~~~ Brem, no, get behind me!
*Seomela grabs Brem's hand and pulls him to her side with Haleth and Callissa. She stands protectively in front of the younger children as the dark image of a figure on horseback looms over them.**Though Seomela is holding him back, Brem still strains forward, yelling defiantly up at the rider.*
Who are you? What do you want?*Slowly, the figure dismounts his stead. It moves slowly but deliberately, as if it has a definate purpose in its actions. After a pregnant silence, it turns sharply and starts towards the cluster of quivering youngsters.**Callissa bursts into tears again, burying her face in Seomela's skirts. She lets out a muffled cry;*
Eowyn, Imrel!
A large screech followed by voices yelling in panic can be heard to Éowyn's left.
"I'm coming!" Éowyn yells, sprinting towards the direction where the voices were coming from. She reaches a moonlit field in the middle of the forest and sees a blade coated with blood next to her feet. With sad grey eyes, the shieldmaiden looks up and sees Haleth, Seomela, Brem and Callissa tied to a tree, Haleth having a gashly wound on his right shoulder....
*Brem panickedly explains to Eowyn what happened.*
This is bad, Eowyn! It was like a ghost, it was, but the sword was real enough. Hal tried to fight him off when he was tying up Seomela, but he just drew his sword and...
*He trails off, going whiter in the face as he notices the amount of blood Haleth has lost. As the scarlet liquid trickles to the earthy ground, the young Rohirrim seems to be losing consciousness.*
I don't know where he went, but we have to get away!
