In a great cave, some miles within the edge of Mirkwood on it's eastern side is the palace of King Thranduil and his son Legolas.
This great cave, from which countless smaller ones open out on every side, winds far underground and has many passages and wide halls; but it is lighter and more wholesome then any goblin-dwelling.
The King's Cave is the strong place of his treasure and the fortress of his people against their enemies.
