Yeah when I did anatomy and physiology we used to cut up animals. You suddenly connect the slabs of meat in front of you with those you see in the supermarket. I think the smell was the worst thing.

We tried everything: from mint oil to a whole forest of those little trees you normally put in your car. Nothing worked...

No it's disgusting. Especially when we had piglets that had been dead for several days. The place we went to was an intensive pig unit. They had such a large number that there were frequent deaths especially amongst newborn piglets - stillbirths, etc. They used to incinerate them and you'd get a waft of bacon over the whole college. ;D

LOL! The worst thing I ever did was a little wallaby...It was soooo cute, sigh...next are dogs... simply disgusting because they smell even worse when dead... On the good side: LOBSTER!!! They aren't dissected but only drawn. Last year the beginner's class wasn't smart enough to keep them for themselves so the prof showed up in our seminar with a big box full of lobster, garlic sauce, bread and wine....and we did have a very nice evening in our institute's kitchen... ;D (five people vs several kgs of 1st class crustaceans...)

I am having second thoughts about studying biology...

It's not as bad as it sounds. You don't have to cut up animals all the time. But it is still part of studying biology. When I started you couldn't get a degree without doing the two basic anatomy classes. From then on it was an individual decision. It also varies from university to university but I doubt there is a way to completely avoid it.

I found it the best way to learn about anatomy. An animals insides look completely different for real compared to a text book drawing. And once you get over the initial shock of cuttung things up it's quite fascinating. I used to like trying to discover how something died or what it's last meal was. Me? Morbid? Surely not. ;D

;D I know exactly what you're talking about..... OK, next topic: is anyone watching the basketball world championship in Indianapolis? Tonight one of the quarter finals is Germany vs. Spain so I'll be in bed at about 3am... Just like the past nights ;D

Urgh, bisecting... *Shudders.* We have to do that later this year in Bio. Mudpuppies, apparently, though I have no idea what they are. I keep meaning to speak to my teacher about my moral objections, but I get the feeling she'll rope me into it anyway.
Hehe, lol Rhia. Hope your work starts at noon, then. Now which team to root for... J/k, of course.

Hehe, lol Rhia. Hope your work starts at noon, then. Now which team to root for... J/k, of course. Fortunately it's my decision. Working hours do vary extremely. There are days of plain computer work but when I have an important experiment it can easily pile up to 15 hrs 7 days/week ;D. As I am a night worker anyway so I'm only found at the institute before 10 am when there are really important things to do
